Tucked away on the corner of McGill and Wellington streets is where you’ll find one of Old Montréal’s hottest restaurants: Jellyfish Crudo + Charbon, a sleek address that promises a chic night out.
Talented young chef Mathieu Masson-Duceppe, winner of The Food Network’s 2015 Chopped Canada culinary competition, brings his skill and artistry to a well-designed menu that features a duality of raw and charcoal-grilled dishes with Asian influences.
Here, dishes are made to share. Tatakis, carpaccio, oysters and ceviche top off the “crudo” while sizzling “charbon” choices run from Gaspor piglet to duck confit to kimchi veal short ribs, with “hot” choices such as octopus tempura and whole Japanese-style fried snapper thrown in for delicious measure.
Such modern, well-prepared cuisine demands nothing less than a clever wine list: sommelier Gabrielle Boland has expertly crafted a diverse selection of privately imported international bottles that take the dining experience up a notch.
To his credit, mixologist Gavin Miller has created a list of original cocktails, designed as a glamorous start to a memorable evening of dining and conversation.
